How to submit audiobook Local Content files

You must submit Local Content audiobook files to OverDrive via FTP (File Transfer Protocol), separate from the Local Content form in Marketplace. For your specific FTP instructions, contact OverDrive Support using our technical support form.

Please follow these guidelines when submitting an audiobook:

  • Submit your audiobook in MP3 format.
  • Encode your MP3 files at 128 kbps or above.
  • If your audio source is longer than 79 minutes, separate it into multiple tracks, with each track beginning at a logical break in the audio (like a new chapter). Individual tracks cannot exceed 79 minutes.
Note: If your audio source is shorter than 79 minutes, you can separate it into tracks for user navigation purposes, but this is optional.
  • Label tracks so they automatically sort in the correct play order. We recommend using numbers (01, 02, 10, 11, etc.) to label each track.
Note: Track names must be 35 characters or less (including spaces). If you need to use longer names, please contact OverDrive Support using our technical support form.
  • Put all tracks for your audiobook in a folder. Use the book's title as the folder name.
Note: You don't need to zip your folder, but if you do, make sure the zip file is not password-protected.
  • If you're submitting multiple audiobooks, put each audiobook in a separate folder.
  • Upload your audiobook's folder to the "Audio" folder on your FTP site.
Note: If you don't see an "Audio" folder on your FTP site, please create one.
