How to assign a title

Permission required: Title assignments

Title assignments are available for schools only.

To assign a title, your school must have an authentication method that uses actual user IDs or logins instead of token IDs. Token-based authentication methods (including some options from Follett and EZproxy) use randomized token IDs, which can't be used to match an assignment with a user.

How to assign a title

  1. Sign into OverDrive Marketplace.
  2. Select the Admin drop-down, then Title assignments.
  3. Click Create assignment above the assignment list or calendar.
  4. Click Search titles.
  5. In the pop-up, search for a title. Your search results will include One Copy/One User, Metered Access, Simultaneous Use, and On-Demand Class Set titles currently in your school's collection. Cost Per Circ (CPC) titles can't be assigned, so they won't appear in search results.
Note: If you're signed in with an Advantage account, you'll only be able to assign titles owned by your Advantage collection (including any titles you've shared through Advantage Plus) or Simultaneous Use titles from the shared collection (also called the consortium). To assign other titles owned by the shared collection/consortium, you'll need to sign into Marketplace with a shared collection/consortium account.
  6. Check the box next to the title you'd like to assign, then click Select title.
  7. Fill in the remaining fields:
    • Authentication name: If you see this field, select your school name or the option that's closest to your school name.
Note: If you want to assign a title to users under multiple authentication names, you'll need to create separate assignments for each authentication name.
    • Start date: Select the date the title will be automatically checked out to your users. If you select today's date, the title will be checked out within 3 hours.
    • End date: Select the date the title will be automatically returned to your collection. This can't be more than 90 days from your start date.
    • Email address(es): Enter your email address and the addresses of any staff members who should receive notifications and alerts about this assignment. Enter each email address on a separate line.
    • User IDs: Click Add user IDs to enter user IDs for everyone who should receive the title. Enter each user ID on a separate line. (Or, select Class roster if you've enabled rostering.)
Note: At least one of the users needs to have signed into your school's OverDrive collection before you can create the assignment. If needed, you can sign in with one of the user IDs before creating the assignment.
  8. Click Create assignment.
  9. Confirm the information, then click Save.

In Sora, assigned titles appear in the "Assignments" section of the Home tab and on the Shelf.

On your school's OverDrive website, assigned titles appear under Account > Checkouts.
