Will Advantage users receive an Advantage or shared collection/consortium copy of a title?
If copies are available in your Advantage collection and the shared collection/consortium
If a user borrows a title that's available in both your Advantage collection and the shared collection (also called the consortium), they'll receive the shared collection/consortium's copy. The Advantage copy is saved to ensure that the next Advantage user who wants the title can access it.
If the Advantage user needs to place a hold
When an Advantage user places a hold on a title that has been purchased by both their Advantage library and the shared collection/consortium, the user joins two separate wait lists:
- The wait list for the Advantage copy, which only includes other members from the same Advantage library.
- The wait list for the shared collection/consortium copy, which includes users from all of the libraries in the shared collection/consortium.
The user will receive whichever copy becomes available first. Since the wait list for Advantage copies is almost always shorter, it's likely that the user will end up with an Advantage copy.
Once a user receives a copy of the title, they're removed from both wait lists.
