How to add a Local Content title to your collection

Permission required: Local content

Before you begin, please note that you must hold the necessary ownership rights, licenses, and/or permissions to upload and distribute titles through Local Content. If you have questions or doubts about rights to any title, the title should not be submitted through Local Content. When you add a title to Local Content, you will be asked to confirm that all such rights are in place. Please see the Local Content terms and conditions for more information.

To add a Local Content title to your digital collection:

  1. Sign into OverDrive Marketplace.
  2. Select the Admin drop-down, then Local content.
  3. Under "Number of copies for local content titles," enter how many copies of the title you'd like added to your collection.
Note: Once your title is added, you can't change the number of copies of it. You can only adjust this number before adding a title.
  4. Select Add a title.

Note: This option will be grayed out if you're already working on adding or editing a Local Content title. Click Clear my queue to discard that work and enable the Add a title option.
  5. Select Audiobook or Ebook.
  6. Select the format of your title:
    • Audiobooks: You'll submit audiobooks to OverDrive as MP3 files, which will be converted into the OverDrive Listen format. OverDrive Listen audiobooks are compatible with Sora (for schools) and Libby (for libraries).
    • Ebooks: For the best results, we recommend choosing the "Adobe EPUB" format and uploading your ebook as an EPUB file. EPUB ebooks will be converted into the OverDrive Read format and are compatible with Sora (for schools) and Libby (for libraries). Learn how to create EPUBs here.
  7. Select Continue.
  8. If you're adding an ebook, click Browse to upload your ebook file. If you're adding an audiobook, continue to step 9.
Note: We are unable to process ebook files larger than 100 MB.
  9. Complete the following fields:
    • Title
    • Sort title: This field will fill in automatically, based on your entered title. You can edit it as needed.
    • Subtitle: (Optional)
    • Series: (Optional)

    • DRM:
      • If you're adding an Adobe ebook, you can set copying, printing, and read-aloud restrictions in this section.
      • If you're adding an audiobook or "Open" format ebook, you can't change the DRM settings.
    • Geographic rights: The country or countries where you have rights to publish the title (most often "worldwide").
    • Ready for lending date: The earliest date that you'd like the title to appear in your collection.
    • Creator(s): (Optional) The person who created the title (usually the author or illustrator).
      • Add as many creators as you'd like by clicking the Add another button.
      • The "File As" field should fill in automatically with the creator's name in sort order (last name, first name), though you can edit this if needed.
    • Identifier(s): (Optional) If you've acquired an ISBN or other identifier for your title, or if your school or library has an internal identifier (like a catalog number) for the title, you can enter it here.

Note: You can save your work and return later by selecting the Save work in my queue button. Then, choose Continue work... from the main Local Content page when you're ready to work on it again.

  10. When you're ready to submit the Local Content form, click the Set live once all files are processed button.
  11. Read the Local Content terms and conditions and, if you accept, click I accept.
  12. If you've added an audiobook, submit your content files to OverDrive using these instructions.

Your title will be published to your collection as soon as it reaches its "Ready for lending" date and we've processed your submitted files. Processing typically takes 24 to 48 hours for ebooks and 4 to 6 weeks for audiobooks.
